Our cockle shell mulch is a new and attractive alternative to gravel or bark aggregate. Predominantly cream in colour, with light brown stripes, this cockle shell mulch is proving to be popular for gardens as well as landscape projects. The shells are very much complete, as opposed to fragments or shards.

The cockle shell mulch is also used as filtration media in water treatment and waste processing plants, and make for an excellent drainage layer on 'green roof' projects.

One bulk bag will approximately cover 16 square metres at a 50mm depth.

Our standard delivery method is a kerbside service fulfilled by a pallet network. As a kerbside delivery service, the driver will have access to a pallet truck, but is not permitted to move the goods across your property once offloaded.

For orders of ten or fewer units, delivery shall be made by a tail-lift vehicle. Please make sure there is a flat and clear area to drop the goods, as well as sufficient access for the vehicle to manoeuvre. Insufficient access may result in a failed delivery.

Once your order has been placed, we shall be in contact within 1-5 working days to provide a delivery date. Please note that a signature may be required for delivery to be completed.

Should you require a vehicle with a crane to lift over a hedge, fence or other obstruction, one can be requested for an additional cost. Please contact our sales team prior to placing your order for a full quotation should you require a crane-lift, or if you have any other requests or requirements.

Please be aware that failed delivery may incur a re-delivery charge.

They are not suitable for driveways or other areas exposed to regular vehicle traffic.

Can cockle shells be used on a driveway?

No. Cockle shell mulch is not recommended for driveways because repeated vehicle traffic will break the shells down into a fine grit. Choose an aggregate designed to withstand vehicle loads instead.

How much cockle shell mulch do I need?

Lay cockle shell mulch at a depth of approximately 40–50mm. One bulk bag typically covers up to 20m² at this depth, although actual coverage can vary depending on the surface and how evenly the material is spread.

How do you lay cockle shells?

For paths, spread the cockle shells to a depth of 40–50mm over a firm, compacted sub-base such as MOT Type 1. Use a rake or shovel to distribute the shells evenly across the area.

For beds and borders, lay a suitable weed-suppressing membrane first, then spread the shells evenly to the recommended depth.

Does cockle shell mulch require maintenance?

Cockle shell mulch requires relatively little maintenance. Periodically remove fallen leaves and debris, then rake the shells to restore an even surface and correct any high or low areas.

Are cockle shells safe for fish?

No. This cockle shell mulch is not fish-friendly and should not be used in ponds, aquariums or water features containing fish.
