This water tank is a complete solution for loft water storage or as an additional expansion tank. The tank is supplied with an installation kit as standard; which is sealed inside the tank for delivery purposes. The only extras you need are the copper tubes/pipes. 

This water tank is manufactured from polyethylene plastic, creating a strong and durable mould. The frame is manufactured form galvanised steel, designed to create extra support that guarantees a long product life. Loft water tanks are mainly used as part of a gravity fed (fully vented) central heating system.

This WRAS approved loft tank complies with British standards to hold potable water. This product can be used as a replacement tank, extra tank or to be installed in new builds. 

Optional insullation jacket and ties are available at an additional cost. These stop the water from fluctuating temperature and therefore reducing the risk of bacteria.

Below is a diagram of the installation required, showing where the inlet and outlets should be drilled.

The optional Poly A30 is a backflow and back siphonage prevention device also known as an AB air gap. It protects incoming mains water from contaminants which may have entered the cold water storage tank for processes which are carried out at the point of use or from water that has been added to the tank that isn’t mains supplied.

It is ideal for use in industrial situations such as in dentist’s surgeries (bodily fluids) and bakeries (yeast) or where water is fed to animals (disease).

It protects against the highest level, fluid category 5 risk laid down by the Department of the Environment and WRAS (Water Regulations Advisory Scheme).

The package includes:

  • A raised chamber which fits to the lid area of the tank
  • Extended ball valve arm which replaces the arm supplied as standard with the tank
  • Fixing screws
  • J4 Insulation
  • Seal

Loft Tank Installation Guide

  1. Carefully cut the security straps on the tank and remove the kit from inside and take the contents out of the plastic bag.
  2. Read the instructions carefully and check there are no missing parts.
  3. Make the first series of holes;
    1. The ball valve hole is situated 60mm (+/-5mm) from the top of the tank (on the smaller width side) and drilled using a 22mm hole saw.
    2. The warning pipe hole is situated 90mm (+/- 5mm) from the top of the tank (on the same side as the ball valve hole) and drilled using a 27mm hole saw. (Both to be marked with crayon before drilling, do not use sharp instruments).
    3. Offer up and mark holes for the breather and vent with a 27mm hole saw. 
    4. Turn the tank around, mark and drill the hole for the outlet pipe; this should be 50mm from the base and drilled with a 29mm diameter hole saw (on the opposite end to the ball valve hole). This means the inlet and outlet create a circulatory flow of water inside the tank (this is the best method but not essential).
  4. Once the holes are drilled, the tank can be transferred into the loft space. 
  5. Then the 22mm compression tank connector can be fitted (into the drilled hole for the outlet pipe) with the rubber washer internally and the plastic washer externally and then assemble the outlet pipe. 
  6. Connect the ball valve to the 4&½” float and assemble into the tank. Pass the brass connector through the drilled hole & attach the back plate of the ball valve to the outside of the tank; this back plate is designed to spread the weight load of the continuously moving ball valve as the tank empties and fills. Add the screw on top of the back plate and tighten the ball valve into place. The float position can be adjusted depending on the waterline in the tank.
  7. Now assemble the screened elbow filter/mesh warning pipe into the other hole (situated on the same side as the ball valve hole), push fit the dip tube internally connecting to the elbow on the external of the tank. This warning pipe accepts any 22mm overflow pipes including copper.
  8. Then fit the screwed breather in the drilled hole and fit the screwed vent pipe sleeve for the expansion pipe. 
  9. Now connect the 22mm warning pipe to the screened warning pipe elbow, ensuring the warning pipe accommodates incoming water supply. A restrictor can be fitted to the inlet if necessary. 
  10. Attach the cold water pipe (inlet) to the service valve connection and tighten, ensuring fittings are held firm whilst tightening. 
  11. Turn on the cold water supply and then turn the service valve to the on position (on the cold water pipe using a screw driver), which is in line with the water flow.
  12. As the tank fills check for any leaks and then clip down the lid.
  13. The final step is the add the insulation jacket that is provided; wrap the larger section around the tank, fastening with the ribbon also provided and then use the smaller insulation piece to the top of the tank.

Important – before positioning the tank ensure it is supported on a solid suitable base over the whole area of the tank, ensuring correct load over joints to accommodate weight when the tank is full.
