About the 1200 Litre Bunded Oil Tank

Whether you’re replacing an ageing single-skin tank or fitting oil heating for the first time, this Rototek bunded tank gives you secure, compliant storage that’s built to last. It’s designed for domestic properties and commercial premises alike, and arrives ready for your installer to connect.

Planning your installation

Before you order, consider these checks to ensure installation is straightforward:

Access route: the tank’s narrowest side is 880mm, so make sure gates, paths and side passages leave enough room to move it into position

Handling: at around 160kg, moving it will need more than one person, or suitable lifting equipment.

Location: the tank is for above ground, external use only. Your OFTEC installer will advise you on the right position and on clearances from buildings and boundaries.

Base: it must stand on a solid, level base. Your OFTEC installer will advise on what's required.

How the bund protects you

Single-skin tanks can split or leak with age, and with no means of secondary containment the oil goes straight onto the ground. Not only is that costly to clean up, but it can also affect drains, watercourses and neighbouring land.

This tank, however, has an outer bund that surrounds the inner tank completely, so if the inner wall is ever damaged, the oil is held safely until the tank can be emptied and replaced.

The tank is made from tough, UV-resistant polyethylene, with an 8–11mm outer wall and a 5–8mm inner wall. It won't rust, and it's built for years of reliable service outdoors.

What's included

  • Supplied fully assembled with:
  • 1" BSP coated steel outlet (female)
  • 2" BSP Atkinson fill point (male)
  • 4" inspection aperture with lockable screw cap
  • 2 x 2" vents
  • Lockable manhole lid
  • Removable bung inside the lid, ready for an optional level gauge

Choose your gauge

Order a gauge with your tank and we'll fit and pre-set it before delivery.

Clock Gauge: a simple, reliable dial located within the lockable manhole lid, giving you a visual guide to your oil level.

Apollo Ultrasonic Electronic Gauge: our best-selling gauge, widely considered the industry-standard remote monitor. A transmitter on the tank sends your oil level over a secure wireless connection to a receiver that plugs into any standard UK socket, so you can check your level from indoors and know when it's time to reorder.

Just select which option you’d prefer in the ‘We also recommend’ section above.

Optional installation kit

Includes a fuel filter with lever-type isolation valve, aluminium 1" to ½" tank adapter, PTFE tape and Heldite jointing compound. Many OFTEC installers already carry these items, so check with yours before adding the kit. That way you only pay for parts you need.

How buying your tank works

  1. Order your tank, plus any gauge or installation kit.
  2. We deliver it via Palletforce, on a delivery vehicle with a tail lift. When the driver offloads the tank, it will be strapped to a wooden pallet, and the pallet will be left on site. This is a kerbside delivery, so you need to consider how you are going to move the tank to the required spot. Please contact us if alternative delivery methods are needed.
  3. Once in place, your OFTEC-registered engineer installs it, in line with statutory requirements. Installation must meet Building Regulations. An OFTEC engineer can certify the work for you.
  4. Register your warranty using the paperwork supplied or on 3C's website.

Keeping your warranty valid

The 10-year warranty depends on two things: installation by an OFTEC Approved Engineer, and an annual inspection by an OFTEC Approved Engineer. Booking the tank inspection alongside your annual boiler service is an easy way to stay covered.

Product Questions (5)

Customer Questions
What can this 1200 litre bunded oil tank be used to store?
This tank is suitable for the storage of heating oil – kerosene, diesel and bio-diesel fuels. Always confirm liquid compatibility before use, particularly if storing anything other than standard heating oil or kerosene.
Is a 1200 litre oil tank suitable for a domestic property?
It can be suitable for domestic heating-oil storage where the required capacity, available installation space and local installation requirements are appropriate. The right tank size will depend on factors such as fuel usage, delivery frequency and the space available on site.
What is a bunded oil tank?
A bunded oil tank has an inner storage tank surrounded by a secondary outer containment layer. This provides additional protection if the inner tank leaks and helps reduce the risk of oil escaping into the surrounding environment.
Can this plastic bunded oil tank be installed outdoors?
Yes, plastic bunded oil tanks are commonly installed outdoors, provided the installation location and base are suitable. The tank should be positioned on a stable, level support and with the appropriate clearances for access, inspection and filling.
How do I know if a 1200 litre oil tank is the right size?
Consider your typical fuel consumption, how often you want deliveries and the usable space available. A 1200 litre tank may suit smaller domestic or light-commercial requirements, but higher-consumption sites may benefit from a larger capacity.
