What is MOT Type 1 or Type 3 used for?
MOT aggregates are used as a sub-base beneath roads, driveways, paths, patios and foundations. Type 1 compacts to a very dense base, while Type 3 offers better drainage for areas such as sports surfaces, permeable paving or wet ground.
How much area does an 850kg bulk bag of aggregate cover?
Coverage depends on material density, but as a guide an 850kg bulk bag typically covers 8–10m² at 50mm depth. MOT and clay-based products are denser and may cover slightly less.
What is puddle clay used for?
Puddle clay forms an impermeable barrier when compacted. It’s commonly used for ponds, canal repairs, embankments, bund lining and landfill engineering, anywhere a watertight layer is required.
How are bulk bags of aggregates delivered?
Aggregates are delivered via kerbside offload using a tail-lift lorry and pallet truck. The driver will place the bulk bag as close as practical to the delivery point, but they cannot move it across soft ground or steep gradients.
Do I need a hardcore sub-base for pea gravel?
Yes — for driveways, paths and high-traffic areas, pea gravel should sit on a compacted sub-base (usually MOT Type 1 or Type 3) to prevent sinking and spreading.
